Electroencephalographic brain studies.
Bioelectrical brain activity of patients with various psychiatric disorders and influence of different treatment methods on brain function is studied. Studies cover several directions: 1) influence of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on bioelectrical brain activity; 2) effect of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) on biolelctrical brain activity; 3) effect of novel antipsychotics on bioelectrical brain activity. Bioelectrical brain activity of patients with mood disorders and schizoprenia spectrum disorders is studied.
Equipment: Digital EEG system „Galileo Sirius Mizar“ (EBNeuro company, Italy).
Keywords: EEG, TMS, ECT, schizophrenia, depression.

Studies of event-related brain potentials.
Event-related potentials (ERP) of the brain are recorded and analyzed. Auditory P300 potential, N400 potential, miss-match negativity (MMN) of patients with psychiatric disorders are studied. Studies cover several directions: 1) effect of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) on P300 potential of patients with psychiatric disorders; 2) effect of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) on P300 potential of patients with psychiatric disorders; 3) influence of novel antipsychotics (risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine) on P300 potential and MMN of patients with psychiatric disorders; 4) studies of potential N400 of patients with schizophrenic spectrum disorders.
Equipment: Digital EEG system „Galileo Sirius Mizar“ (EBNeuro company, Italy).
Keywords: event-related potentials, auditory evoked potentials, P300 potential, N400 potential, MMN, TMS, ECT, schizophrenia, depression, treatment-resistant psychiatric disorders.

Effect of ECT and TMS on the concentration of blood serum BDNF of psychiatric patients
Increase of blood serum levels of BDNF is related to better function of the brain. ECT and TMS can increase these levels, therefore the measurement of BDNF concentration may be possible marker of treatment results. BDNF concentration is measured using ELISA method.
Equipment: ELISA scanner „LisaScan EM“, for ECT – „Thymatron System IV“ (Somatics, USA), for TMS – „MagPro X100“ (MagVenture, Denmark) and TMS neuronavigator (Localite, Germany).
Keywords: BDNF, blood serum, ECT, TMS, schizophrenia, depression
